Books can play an important part of children forming faith in God. The Books for Life team got the following message:
"Our 11 year old son has been brought up in a Christian home and church. He is currently quite disengaged from church and starting to ask some questions about faith. He loves to read and can read very well. Can you suggest any books suitable for him to read himself to enthuse and engage him in faith in Jesus and give him a sense of amazement?"
Here are some books that might help. Feel free to add your own recommendations in the comment section below.
here's a series of book designed to help put the wonder back into the Christian faith and to help young children ask more questions. Why not encourage them to read them for the first time, or to read them again with fresh eyes, noting down the questions that come to mind as he does so.
I tried the Case for Christ for Kids but was a little frustrated with it. I think the original might be accessible enough for an 11 year old to read.
The powerful testimonies of Christians can be a real inspiration to young people.
The graphic artistry can help young people get a new angle on Bible, my 10 year old loved this version of the Bible alongside her Adventure Bible ( see below ).
A really attractively produced Bible with the full NIV text but with really helpful notes and guides.
This award winning book is in the style of the Tom Gates children's books. It retells Luke's gospel in a fun and engaging way. It's great!
A fun little book helping children make the transition to secondary school, written in an engaging and easy to access style.
